Visitor Welcome Team Member
Location: Rowfant Trail, Rowfant Business Centre, Wallage Lane, Rowfant RH10 4NQ
£13 per hour | Mainly weekends & school holidays | 8.30am - 5.30pm shifts (applicants must be 18+ to be considered for this role)
Reports to: Director (On-Call Director as required)
Job Summary
The Visitor Welcome Team plays a vital role in creating a safe, welcoming and enjoyable experience for all visitors to Rowfant Trail.
You will be responsible for opening the trail each morning, carrying out safety and facilities checks, welcoming visitors, handling payments and merchandise, and acting as the first point of contact throughout the day.
This is a hands-on, customer-facing role requiring initiative, responsibility and a strong commitment to safety in an outdoor environment.
Key Responsibilities
Opening Duties
• Arrive 30 minutes prior to public opening.
• Open all gates and the car park.
• Conduct a full morning trail safety inspection.
• Check toilets and visitor facilities for cleanliness, safety and readiness.
• Complete required health and safety documentation.
• Set up merchandise and visitor welcome area ready for the day.
Visitor Welcome & Customer Service
• Greet visitors warmly and professionally upon arrival.
• Take payments for trail entry and process sales accurately.
• Provide information about the trail, activities and events happening that day.
• Distribute trail sheets and encourage participation in activities.
• Promote merchandise and any special events or offers.
• Deliver a consistently friendly, inclusive and positive visitor experience.
Conclude the visitor experience and obtain feedback
Health & Safety
• Ensure the safety of visitors within the trail and facilities.
• Identify and respond to hazards or issues during morning checks and throughout the day.
• Close off relevant areas of the trail if major safety issues arise.
• Liaise with the On-Call Director for guidance on significant issues.
• Act as the first point of contact for first aid incidents during the day.
• Coordinate closure of the trail in the event of a serious incident, supported by the Director on call.
• Follow all established health and safety procedures and risk assessments.
Daily Operations
• Maintain clean, safe and welcoming visitor areas.
• Handle cash and card transactions responsibly.
• Follow established opening, operational and closing procedures.
• Support smooth running of activities and events where required.
Closing Duties
• Close the trail and facilities at the end of the day.
• Secure gates and car park.
• Ensure facilities are left safe and tidy.
• Complete end-of-day procedures as required.
Carry out any other duties as may be required.

Skills & Aptitude (Essential)
• Proactive and able to take responsibility for own workload.
• Confident working independently in an outdoor environment.

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Strong customer service skills.
• Calm and capable under pressure, particularly in incident situations.
• Ability to use initiative and make sensible decisions.
Knowledge & Experience (Essential)
• Previous experience in a customer-facing role.
• Ability to follow established work procedures and complete documentation accurately.
Desirable
• First Aid qualification (or willingness to train).
• Experience handling payments and/or operating a till.
• Understanding of health and safety procedures.
• Experience working in an outdoor visitor attraction.
• Experience responding to visitor enquiries and managing minor incidents.

Working Environment
This role is primarily outdoors and requires working in varying weather conditions. The position involves standing for periods of time, opening and securing gates, and walking the trail for inspections.
