Looking for a family day out near Crawley?

If you're looking for things to do with kids in Crawley or somewhere nearby where children can explore, play and discover nature, Rowfant Trail offers a different kind of family day out.

Located in Rowfant, near Crawley, West Sussex, Rowfant Trail is a woodland nature trail where families can explore the outdoors together.

What can children do at Rowfant Trail?

There is plenty for children to discover as they make their way through the woodland.

Depending on the season, children can:

    •    Explore woodland paths

    •    Cross bridges and boardwalks

  • Try our year-round orienteering course

  • Explore the ‘Deer Track’ - our new, extended trail loop

    •    Look for birds, badgers, deer, foxes, insects and other wildlife

    •    Explore the stream and pond

    •    Take part in children's nature spotting activities including our ‘Spring Spotter’ / ‘Summer Spotter’ / ‘Fungi Spotter’ sheets

    •    Follow seasonal themed trails at Easter, Halloween and Christmas

    •    Enjoy woodland play features and build dens in our dedicated den making zone

    •    Have a picnic in the woodland picnic area

How long does it take?

The trail is just over a mile long and takes around an hour to explore, although younger children may want to stop regularly to explore the play areas and investigate the woodland and its wildlife.

What makes it unique?

Rowfant Trail is ideal for families who want to spend time outdoors rather than visiting another indoor attraction.

Children can explore at their own pace while adults enjoy the woodland surroundings. The experience changes throughout the year, with seasonal wildlife, nature activities and special family events.

Is Rowfant Trail suitable for pushchairs?

The woodland includes steps and uneven terrain, so Rowfant Trail is not suitable for wheelchairs or pushchairs. We recommend that visitors use baby carriers / slings when visiting the trail.

Where can I park?

We have a large visitor car park located right at the entrance to the trail. Follow the signs as you enter the track from the road.

Do you have a toilet?

We have a composting toilet and handwashing facilities located near our picnic area.

Can I bring my dog?

There are restrctions in place throughout the year to protect our Wildlife and Flora.

Well behaved dogs on short leads are welcome from September until the end of the year, however, please check the event information for the date you are visiting to be sure they will be allowed access.

We do not allow dogs to any of our evening events.

Do you offer private hire?

Yes - private group hire is available for local scouting, guiding and schools groups. Send us an email for more information.

Do you need to book?

You do not need to pre-book entry for our standard open days - just turn up and have fun!

Special events such as HalGLOWeen and our Christmas evening require pre-booked tickets which can be purchased on the bookings page of the website.
